I would like to thank all of my group members who have great patience to listen my pre-presentation for three times! Every time when I got stuck, they gave me a warm smile to encourage me carrying on. Firstly, I used my usual way to present which is more enthusiastic but speaking too fast to well connect all my words. After that, I tried to address slowly first even it was a bit plain. Doing this let me feel bored quickly. Surprisingly, I found my weakness in this kind of attitude reflection, which is I always wanted to be successful quickly and didn't like to practice step by step. Thus, I told myself "you have to be fluent first then any others." I forced myself to speak slowly but fluently several times. I knew only organize every phase in my mind, only I really familiar with our product, I could convince our audience to buy it!
Secondly, using Prezi was a wise choice! It was not only fresh audiences' sense but also let our presentation more interesting. Furthermore, the most important thing is it did emphasize the point we want to highlight, especially, the "zoom in" effect at certain point. It made it easier to stress the problem and solution. Also, giving the clear organization.
In sum, there is no short cut way for me to perform as excellent as my classmates did but I could overcome my language barrier as long as I practiced it step by step. Besides, we could learn more about Prezi, thus, we could have a more effectively detective organization next time.
Dear Susan,
回覆刪除As your group mate throughout this entire course, I can tell you that you have improved so much. You were very shaky during our peer teaching presentation, but you were amazing in the final presentation.
Doing a presentation is not about using bombastic words or long sentences. Such will not make you sound sophisticated, but will only serve to bore the audience. It is about using the simplest words to send your idea across.
In addition, I am not sure if you have heard this from Dr Jaidev. She said that a presenter who talks more slowly will command the audience's attention more than someone who rambles on and on. Hence it is good to talk slowly.
Lastly, I feel that your energy is related to your confidence level, which is especially affected by your negative feelings towards English language proficiency. You felt that your English is not as good as the others, which is not the case at all. You must remember that your English is not lousy at all. Do not feel inadequate about your English language proficiency. Keep that in mind and keep improving.
It is really fun working with you.
haha, I sounded incoherent in my first post. Please allow me to insert as follows.
回覆刪除Doing a presentation is not about using bombastic words or long sentences. ...It is about using the simplest words to send your idea across. *So do not even bother with flowery words, since we were not reciting a poem. We should use layman terms to send our idea across in a clear and crisp manner; and not be worried if the language were to be slightly plain.*
Hello Susan!
回覆刪除I really think that you have improved a lot! :)
You appeared so much more confident in this final presentation than your previous ones. Good! Also, you definitely have sounded much clear. I guess this is a result of the increase in confidence level? :)
I understand that you feel inadequate in your English Language ability and that adds to the insecurity of speaking in English. I have this "inferiority" as well though I have been under Singapore education system (where English is supposed to be our first language) for more than ten years (=.= to myself). But regardless of what, I think what Charles said above is right. :) It is not that we do not know the English language. We know it, just that we do not use it often so we just have to overcome this psychological barrier and speak more English. Practice makes perfect! ;)
加油! Keep up the improvement! :D
